With all of the excitement with the recently-announced Galaxy Watch 5, we can’t forget about the Google Pixel Watch. This is Google’s first smartwatch, and it’s set to launch later this fall. According to 9To5Google, the Pixel Watch might actually use the Google Fi network when it launches.

Google Fi is the company’s own signal carrier service much like a lot of the other smaller carriers out there. With it, you get a phone number, data plan, and all of the other trappings of a carrier. Right now, you’ve only been able to use phones (both Android and iPhones), tablets, and Chromebooks with Google Fi.

But, you might be able to use the Pixel watch with Google Fi

You’ll want to take this with a grain of salt, as this was discovered via an APK teardown. While looking through the Google Fi app, 9To5Google was able to find some references to the Pixel Watch- more specifically to its codename Rohan. Within the code, there’s the line “rohan_add_device_confirmation_details”.

Since the Google Fi app is referring to the Pixel Watch, it could mean that you’ll be able to use that device on the network. There’s no official confirmation at this point, but it’s something to keep an eye out for.

If this watch is coming to Google Fi, we expect Google to make the device available to purchase from the Google Fi site. If not, then the other option would be to purchase a watch from another storefront and activate it on Google Fi.

Since this was discovered in the code of the app, there’s always that chance that it could be taken away. We’ll need to wait until the device gets closer to release before we can say for sure. The Pixel Watch is expected to launch along with the Pixel 7 phones in October. There’s still a lot of information we’re looking forward to, so stay tuned.
