This morning at Unpacked, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, a more rugged smartwatch option compared to what it’s offered in the past. Sporting a significantly larger battery, Samsung has designed the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro to be your “outdoor” lifestyle smartwatch. So if you like outdoorsy adventures and you spend a lot of time outside, this might be the option for you.
It boasts all of the same improvements as the original Galaxy Watch 5. But it enhances things even further with some extras. Naturally, it has the same 5ATM, IP68 water resistance rating. But it also comes with a more durable sapphire crystal glass. And instead of the aluminum it comes with a casing made of Titanium.
Samsung confirmed at Unpacked that the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro only comes in one size, 45mm. Making slightly larger than the Galaxy Watch 5’s bigger model. But it does come in both Bluetooth and LTE versions so there is some variance with the connectivity.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro can last for up to 80 hours
Wear OS smartwatches have always struggled to last for longer than a day or two. But that doesn’t seem like it’ll be a problem for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Utilizing the same Wear OS + One UI Watch software combination as the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 series, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro already has some improved battery life.
But it benefits from an even larger battery than any of Samsung’s past smartwatches. Topping out at a 590mAh battery capacity. Samsung says this is a 50% increase on the Galaxy Watch 4. Compared to the 15% increase found on the Galaxy Watch 5. Giving consumers yet another reason to consider this model over the standard one.
That 50% increase translates to a battery life of up to 80 hours on a single charge. Of course, your mileage may vary since it will depend on what features you use and how often you use them. Still, it’s the best any Wear OS watch has ever offered. In addition to these features, Samsung is adding in some more functionality for runners and cyclists. Route-specific workouts and a new track route feature will be available and you can easily import your workouts.
The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at $449.99 for the Bluetooth model, or you can you step it up to the LTE model for $499.99. Both models will come in Black Titanium and Gray Titanium.
