Samsung is on a roll this week. Over the past four days, the company has released new software updates to over a dozen Galaxy smartphones and tablets. From the new security patch to Android 12L and One UI 4.1.1 for select flagship models, Galaxy devices have been receiving updates left, right, and center. And, the party continues with a few more models joining in. The Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 10 Lite are picking up the September security update today.
The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra are currently receiving the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in Europe. The patch is live for both 4G and 5G variants of the phones. The new firmware versions for the two connectivity variants are G98*FXXSFFVHA and G98*BXXSFFVHA, respectively, SamMobile reports. Note that the Galaxy S20 FE has already received this month’s security update.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is also joining the September SMR party ahead of the flagship Galaxy Note 10 models. The update for this phone has also begun in Europe, with the new firmware version being N770FXXS8GVH3. Samsung should expand the rollout for all of these phones to other markets, including the US, in the coming days.
Don’t expect any new features or user-facing changes, though. Samsung is only seeding the vulnerability fixes that are part of this month’s release. The company mentioned over 50 patches in its monthly security bulletin updated earlier this month. These include patches for Android OS vulnerabilities from Google as well as some fixes for around 30 Galaxy-specific flaws from the Korean brand.
Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 10 Lite will get Android 13
Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in early 2020. All of these phones came running Android 10 out of the box. They have since received updates to Android 11 and Android 12. According to the company’s software support policy, the devices are due for one more major Android update, i. e. Android 13. We expect the final major update to be available to these phones towards the end of this year, or early next year. It will bring Samsung’s One UI 5.0 custom software, which the company is currently beta testing on the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 series.
Note that the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ are not eligible for Android 13. They debuted with Android 9 Pie in 2019 and already received the three major Android updates Samsung promised. The duo of phones will get security updates at least until August 2023.
