Google has confirmed the name of the second-gen Tensor SoC. It will be called the ‘Google Tensor G2’. This is something Google confirmed following the announcement of its October 6 event.

The company will fully announce the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch. Google did share some information about the devices back in May during Google I/O, but not a lot.

Name of the second-gen Google Tensor SoC has been confirmed

Following that announcement, the company updated parts of the Google Store website with some new information. One detail that was added is the name of the upcoming chip, which is how a Twitter user spotted it.

If you take a look at the image below, you’ll see the part that was added. Google clearly mentioned that this chip will fuel the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. It says it will “bring even more helpful, personalized features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition”.

Google Tensor G2 name confirmation

This is, hopefully, the chip that will be included in the upcoming Google Pixel foldable. That device is tipped to launch in March next year, based on the latest info. The details are still blurry, though.

The original Google Tensor chip now fuels three devices

The original Google Tensor SoC, which fuels the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a, has proven itself to be quite a capable processor. Google took full advantage of the custom hardware, and that integration should go even deeper with the Tensor G2.

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have been leaking out for quite some time now. Google already showed both devices during Google I/O, well, their back renders. Prototypes of the two devices have been popping up left and right, though.

Both devices will resemble their predecessors, but their camera visors will be covered by metal this time around. That is the main design change between the two generations. The Pixel 7 will also be slightly smaller than the Pixel 6.
