Samsung Confirms It Was Recently Hacked

Major companies are major targets for hackers, unfortunately. The biggest phone manufacturer in the world, Samsung, has just confirmed that it was hacked recently via a note to its customers. This hack happened only a few months ago.

Major companies have some of the best cybersecurity around, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be infiltrated. Just recently, LastPass suffered a hack, and some of its source code was taken. However, the company indicated that no user information was taken in the breach.

Samsung informed its customers that it was hacked

The Korean tech giant sent out an email on Friday explaining that a third party was able to bypass the company’s security measures. This scenario is worse than what happened to LastPass because the company confirms that user data was stolen in the breach. In the email, it says that

“…an unauthorized third party acquired information from some of Samsung’s U.S. systems. On or around August 4, 2022, we determined through our ongoing investigation that personal information of certain customers was affected.”

This is something no person wants to hear. Even the silver lining to this isn’t all that shiny. Samsung stated that neither social security nor credit/debit card was taken in the hack. However, in some cases, names, contact and demographic information, dates of birth, and product registration information were taken. So, it’s bitter-sweet.

Samsung employed a leading security firm to help with this investigation and it’s also working with law enforcement to find out more information. Unfortunately, there’s not much more information that we can provide at the moment. The investigation has been underway for a while now, but you can bet that a lot of it’s happening behind closed doors.

This is an ongoing investigation

You’ll want to keep an eye out for any more updates coming from Samsung regarding your account. This investigation is still ongoing, so more details could be discovered as time goes on. Be sure to keep an eye on your account. Also, if it will make you feel any safer, you can change your login information for your account.
