Releasing the Android 13 update to some Pixel phones reportedly caused a disruption in Android Auto. Google said it’s investigating the issue.

According to 9to5google, many users on the Google support page brought up the issues they have with Android Auto on their phones after updating the OS to Android 13. These issues are addressed by Google.

However, the Android 13 update caused Android Auto to stop working on some Pixel phones. For example, a user said he owns a 2020 Honda Civic, and its Android Auto is not working on his Pixel 5 after upgrading the OS to Android 13. These issues were spotted in early September, coinciding with the official releases of Android 13.

It’s still unclear how many Pixel devices are dealing with this problem, but it shouldn’t be many. The issue is also seen more on Pixel 5 devices. Additionally, Google has confirmed that it is investigating the case, and an update could be on the way.

In response to one of the affected users on September 8, Google said, “Thank you for reporting this issue. We have forwarded your issue to the rest of the team and will keep you updated with the available information.”

Well, yet there is no confirmed solution for the issue. However, on the same thread, some users said they could solve the issue by resetting the car’s infotainment system. Switching the “Default USB Configuration” to favor “File Transfer/Android Auto” in the Developer Settings on the phone is another solution that users suggest.

We can’t independently confirm if any of these solutions work. However, if your Android Auto experience is interrupted in the Pixel phone and you can’t wait for a Google solution, the above-suggested solutions could be worth trying.

This is the second major Android Auto disruption in the last couple of months. Back in June, Android Auto users also reported a weird bug that extends the size of app icons.
