Google Play Console app update brings Pixel 7 support

The Google Play Console app is picking up its first update in more than three years. The latest version adds support for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The new Pixels are 64-bit-only Android phones and can’t run 32-bit apps.

Google last updated the Play Console app in July 2019. The company has sort of neglected the app in favor of the web version. It encouraged Android app developers to use the website for all the latest features and functionalities. The Android maker prioritized the web version of Play Console and expanded it into a feature-rich dashboard for developers. The app never got the latest features, slowly pushing it out of sight.

However, the Play Console app continued to exist in the Play Store. Developers could still use it to check their app’s performance statistics and financial data. It also lets developers read and reply to reviews and get notified about their app’s status and publishing changes. Just that the app lacked the latest features and UI improvements as it didn’t get any updates for years.

After more than three years, Google is finally rolling out an update for the app. Version 8.2.039 of the app is now available in the Play Store, with the company mentioning “bug fixes and stability improvements” in the changelog. But more importantly, the Google Play Console app is now compatible with 64-bit-only Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Users of the latest Pixels can now download the app from the Play Store (link below).

This update doesn’t bring any new features to the Google Play Console app

The Google Play Console app isn’t getting any new features or other changes with the latest update. As noted by 9to5Google, it’s the same old experience with a behind-the-scenes change that adds support for new Pixel smartphones. By the looks of it, Google wants to gradually shut down the app and only focus on the web version of Play Console.

This is what Google did with its AdSense apps as well. The company prioritized the AdSense website, shutting down the mobile apps for Android, iOS, and iPadOS last year. It didn’t release any PWA (progressive web app) as a replacement. The Google Play Console app may have the same fate, though we don’t have any confirmation yet. As of now, the app is available and functional, though with limited features. You can click the button below to download the latest version.
