Samsung has upped its preparations for the Galaxy S23 launch. Hardware developments have been going on for the past few months. We have come across multiple leaks and rumors that revealed the details about the cameras, batteries, and design of the upcoming Samsung flagships. Word is that the Korean firm has now begun firmware development for the phones.
As expected, the Galaxy S23 series will arrive with a new iteration of Samsung’s One UI custom Android software. The devices will run One UI 5.1 out of the box (via). Of course, it will be based on Android 13, but the company’s Android 13 update currently brings One UI 5.0. The Galaxy S23 trio will debut the updated version. This isn’t surprising, though. Samsung has been doing this for some time now, launching major flagships with a new iteration of its custom Android software, with a few new features in two.
Unfortunately, not much is known about One UI 5.1 at the moment. Samsung did hint at it in its press release announcing One UI 5.0 last month. The company said the new version will bring more lock screen customization options to Galaxy devices. The current version already adds multiple new options, so Samsung appears to be readying more of those. If history is any indication, we should get a glimpse of One UI 5.1 before the Galaxy S23 series debuts, either in leaks or official announcements.
Samsung should also seed most if not all One UI 5.1 features to older Galaxy flagships and premium mid-rangers. Those updates will come after the Galaxy S23 series is official. Rumors are that the company is looking to unveil the phones in January or early February next year. The phones will likely be available for purchase globally in February.
The Galaxy S23 series will bring a few notable upgrades
Leaks so far have suggested that the Galaxy S23 series will bear an identical design to the Galaxy S22 series. But the new flagships will still bring plenty of upgrades. Most notably, they will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor globally. Samsung is ditching its in-house Exynos processors for good. Exynos chipsets have historically underperformed their Snapdragon rivals.
Additionally, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP primary camera, while the company is also expected to equip all models with improved camera sensors. It has likely improved its camera software and algorithms as well. We are also expecting bigger batteries and improved displays.
