Users of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US, we have some good news for you. Your foldable is getting the Android 13 update. The rollout has begun for the unlocked units. It should now just be a matter of time before the carrier-locked versions also pick up the big Android update, which also brings the Korean firm’s One UI 5.0 custom software.

The Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update for the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US comes with firmware version F916U1UEU2IVK5. The update is live on Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, and Comcast’s networks (via). Samsung should soon cover unlocked units on other networks and expand the release to carrier-locked versions. The firmware version may slightly vary for the latter but the content will remain the same.

Speaking of content, this update has plenty of goodies. We have new features for the Camera, Gallery, Bixby Routines, Samsung Keyboard, Samsung Internet, Photo Editor, AR Emoji, and many other stock apps and services. On top of that, Samsung has improved the aesthetics of its custom Android skin with bolder app icons, smoother system animations, and new customizations.

Samsung has also improved the accessibility, privacy, and security of its Galaxy devices with One UI 5.0. And talking about security, this update also contains the latest security patch. The December SMR (Security Maintenance Release) patches 80 vulnerabilities, including a few critical ones that allowed remote code execution.

Samsung continues its impressive run with Android 13 updates for Galaxy devices

Samsung is on a roll with its Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update. The company is aiming to release the new Android version for all of its eligible Galaxy devices before the end of this year and is very much on track to that. We still have half a month left and the Korean behemoth only has a handful of budget and mid-range models remaining to update. It could quickly sweep through those before we enter 2023.

If you’re using a Galaxy smartphone or tablet eligible for Android 13 but haven’t received the update yet, your wait shouldn’t be much longer now. You will soon get a notification prompting you to download the big update over the air (OTA). Simply tap on the notification and you’re good to go. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If you find a pending update, you can download it. No need to wait for the notification. But if there’s no update available, wait for the notification or check again a few days later.
