The Google Pixel Watch is receiving its first software update. The first-gen Google smartwatch is picking up a handful of bug fixes and improvements with this release. According to the company, it has fixed some irregularities with hands-free profile (HFP) calling and also improved the feature. Google has also added a new setting option to enable or disable the battery saver with a single tap.

A watch face bug that caused complications to occasionally show incorrect data has also been fixed. Your watch face complications should now be more reliable. Last but not least, Google mentions a fix for a Fitbit Exercise issue where the exercise layout didn’t appear properly on the screen. If you frequently use this service, you should see it work better than before.

Google rolls out the first software for the Pixel Watch

Google has promised to offer at least three years of software updates to the Pixel Watch. These include both major updates that bring a new version of the Wear OS as well as minor updates like this, which bring bug fixes, improvements, and a few new features. The latter will come every month, though there may be a few exceptions. Perhaps we’ve already had one. The wearable arrived on the market in October and didn’t get any update in November. It did have an update out of the box, though.

Either way, if you’re using the first-ever smartwatch made by Google, you should get a new software update soon. The updated firmware version for the device is RWD9.220429.070 (RWD9.220429.070.J1 for users in Japan and Taiwan). It’s still Wear OS 3.5 for the Pixel Watch but you’re getting the latest December Android security patch. This month’s security release fixes dozens of high-severity and critical vulnerabilities on Android devices.

To update your Pixel Watch to the latest version, go to the Settings app and navigate to System > System updates. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. If you don’t see any updates, fret not. The rollout began on Monday and may take a week or two before reaches all Pixel Watch units around the world. You should receive a notification once the OTA (over the air) update is available for your wearable. Tap on the notification to download and install the update.

Coinciding with this release, Google has also updated the Pixel Watch app. The new version is 1.0.5 and it comes just a few weeks after the last update. You can download it from the Google Play Store by clicking the link below.
