fuboTV has just reached a carriage deal with Scripps Network, which will bring seven new channels to the streaming TV service.

These are not big time cable channels, they are normally ones that would be included OTA if you have an updated antenna. But still nice to have, especially without any sort of price increase.

fuboTV’s VP, Marisa Elizondo stated that “Today’s launch gives consumers a new streaming option to watch these top Scripps channels and further diversifies fuboTV’s growing programming line-up.”

Included in this new carriage agreement are the following channels: ION, ION Mystery, ION Plus, Bounce, Grit, Newsy and Court TV. Here’s a quick rundown of these new channels:

  • ION: This channel features a lineup of popular off-network series, original and holiday movies, and more.
  • ION Mystery: Home to television’s most binge-worthy, edge-of-your-seat thrillers, docuseries and originals.
  • ION Plus: Offers such fan-favorite drama series as “Murdoch Mysteries” and “Saving Hope.”
  • Bounce: Provides a programming mix of original series and movies, theatrical motion pictures, off-network series, specials, and events designed for African American audiences.
  • Grit: Features classic western movies and series.
  • Newsy: The nation’s only free 24/7 broadcast news network, serving viewers opinion-free national news from 14 news bureaus across the U.S.Becoming Scripps News on Jan. 1.
  • Court TV: Devoted to live, gavel-to-gavel coverage, in-depth legal reporting, and expert analysis of the nation’s most important and compelling trials.

This carriage deal could be huge for fuboTV in the future

While this carriage deal seems kind of small right now, it could turn into a big deal later on down the road. That’s because Scripps has been exploring bidding on media rights for local sports teams. And with Bally Sports reportedly getting ready to declare for bankruptcy, this could happen sooner rather than later.

And if Scripps does pick up some local sports rights, it could open the door for fuboTV to be one of the only streaming TV services with local sports. Of course, that would be local sports in specific markets and not nationwide.
