Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 series is done getting major Android updates. Launched with Android 10 in early 2020, the devices picked up updates until Android 13, which arrived a couple of months back. They will not get Android 14. However, Samsung will still release at least one more One UI update for the phones. The company is testing One UI 5.1 for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

One UI 5.1 is an incremental update from One UI 5.0 that most Galaxy smartphones currently run. Still based on Android 13, the new version is expected to debut on the Galaxy S23 series next month. Samsung will then gradually roll out the update to eligible older models. It is already One UI 5.1 for the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The likes of the Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and other recent flagships should also pick up the new version.

Turns out the Galaxy S20 series is also in this lineup. According to SamMobile, Samsung is testing One UI 5.1 for its 2020 flagships with firmware version G98**XXUFHWA1. This build number indicates that it will be a major update. While not a whole new version of One UI, the upcoming release will bring a handful of new features and improvements, including more lockscreen customizations. Samsung sees this update big enough to consider it a major release.

No Android 14 but the Galaxy S20 series will get One UI 5.1

Samsung last year announced that it will offer four generations of Android OS upgrades to its flagships and select Galaxy A series mid-range devices. Unfortunately, the revamped support policy only covers flagship models launched in 2021 and beyond, i. e. Galaxy S21 and newer. The Galaxy S20 series is not eligible for that, blocking its access to Android 14. Thankfully, the phones aren’t done getting new features. They will pick up at least one more feature update from Samsung in the form of One UI 5.1.

The Galaxy S20 trio will continue to get security updates for at least a couple more years, though. The updates may come less frequently but the phones should get regular security patches until March 2025. We will keep you posted with all those updates when they come. You can also rely on us to inform you about the One UI 5.1 update for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. It may arrive in late February or March this year, so stay tuned. The Galaxy S23 series will break cover on February 1.
