It’s CES 2023, and that means it’s time to see some new and exciting tech coming from top manufacturers. Lenovo is unveiling some interesting tech at the event alongside the ThinkPhone. The company just introduced its concept called Project Chronos at CES, and it looks promising.
This project seems to have been inspired by the increasing interest in mixed-reality technologies out there. It’s a device meant to let you control a virtual avatar without the use of additional equipment.
Lenovo unveils Project Chronos at CES
More companies are looking to invest in VR technology, and Lenovo is no exception. The company is working on Project Chronos, but it’s merely in the conceptual stage at this point. Don’t expect a product on store shelves anytime soon.
The point of Project Chronos is to let people control virtual avatars in real-time without the need for additional equipment. If you use motion-captured avatars (for example, if you’re a VTuber), then you’d need motion-capture hardware like wearable devices. Depending on the equipment, it can add extra heft to your setup.
With Project Chronos, Lenovo’s plan is to let your body be the equipment. The device will have an advanced camera on the front that will be able to accurately track your body’s movements. It will then use that data to control your avatar in real-time with low latency.
Lenovo didn’t only give VTubing as an example. Another example the company gave was if a fitness instructor wanted to assist their client by showing them in real-time. We also can’t forget about the applications for virtual business meetings.
Right now, we don’t have an official name for the device, but Lenovo says that it will be revealed when we get hardware information on the device. At this point, we don’t know if this device will actually make it onto shelves, as it’s still really early. In any case, it seems that Lenovo has high hopes for it.
