File management on Google Drive can be a headache if dozens of different files are in your Drive. Google is now working on a new feature that allows users to select multiple files at once and perform a certain action on them. In other words, it will make it easeir to manage multiple files at once.
The feature is spotted in the cloud backup application and will find its way to Google Drive in the coming weeks. The toolbar for multi-selecting is a great option for users with tons of files, making it easier to share, download, or delete a slew of files with just a few clicks. Likewise, organizations using Google Workspace will certainly find this feature helpful.
Google Drive adds a multi-select toolbar for managing files
Besides the multi-select toolbar, Google also brought a bunch of other changes to Drive. While these updates don’t seem like a big deal, they’re still effective at improving the user’s experience.
For example, Google Drive is getting a Material You redesign to be aligned with other company services like Gmail. Google says the goal is to offer a “simpler, more streamlined UI that emphasizes the most loved tools within our products, helping you work more efficiently in the tools you know and love.” The Material You makeover will also head to Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
To find files easier and correctly, Google Drive is adding new search chips. The feature allow for searching files based on type, last modification, and the sharing participants. As you can see in the screenshot below, a dropdown menu in “My Drive” allows for this. It also supports various document types, including PDF, audio, and drawings.
