The Google Pixel Watch Faces app is getting a new update. The app is responsible for maintaining and updating watch faces for the company’s smartwatches. While the latest update doesn’t add any new faces, it brings a notable improvement to the Google Assistant complication. 9toGoogle has found that the complication now color-matches your watch face.

You can summon Google Assistant on your Pixel Watch by speaking the hotword (Hey Google or OK Google), long-pressing the side button, or tapping on the watch face complication. Unless your hands are occupied, the last option may be the quickest way to wake the virtual assistant. Simply add the complication to your watch face and tap it whenever you need the Assistant.

This Google Assistant complication supported four colors since the beginning: blue, red, green, and yellow. It’s the same icon in different colors. You could pick one that fits best in your watch face. But with limited options, it doesn’t match every face and looks a bit odd sometimes. Google is fixing that limitation by allowing you to color-match the Assistant complication with the watch face on your Pixel Watch.

According to the new report, version 1.1.69.494644191 of the Google Pixel Watch Faces app brings this support. The Google Assistant complication will now take the same color as the rest of the watch face. This makes things look uniform. If you liked the original contrasting colors, you can get those back by assigning a shortcut to the Google Assistant app. Just keep in mind that the Assistant icon will always appear against a white background.

This update also introduces a bug to the Google Pixel Watch Faces app

The publication has also discovered a bug in the latest update for the Google Pixel Watch Faces app. It reportedly isn’t showing complications properly while previewing faces in the Pixel Watch companion app. Some complications are missing, making watch faces look a bit odd. It doesn’t affect the functionality of the watch or faces, though. Google will likely fix this bug with the next update.

Speaking of the next update, we hope Google will add new faces too. The Google Pixel Watch Faces app has had only 19 faces since its launch back in October 2022. That’s including the Photos face. We will let you know if and when the company adds more faces for its first-gen smartwatch. In the meantime, you can download the latest version of the Watch Faces app from the Google Play Store.
