OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 11 will get 4 years of major Android updates, and 5 years of security patches. This information comes from OnePlus’ President for the Chinese market, Li Jie.

He confirmed that not only the OnePlus 11, but the OnePlus Ace 2 and Ace 2V handsets will get the same treatment. That means that the OnePlus 11 will get updates all the way up to Android 17.
Yes, he was talking about the Chinese market, but that should automatically apply to the global model too. OnePlus still did not officially confirm it, though. Needless to say, these are great news, as they put the OnePlus 11 on the same level as Samsung and Google.
Both of those companies provide the same support for their flagships. It’s nice to see that OnePlus joined the ranks, as improving software support was one of the reasons OnePlus and OPPO joined software teams.
The OnePlus 11, as most of you know, was first launched in China, and then arrive to global markets a couple of months after that. The phone has a lot to offer, and it’s very competitive in the price department. Though in some markets more than in others.
This commitment will cost OnePlus around $15 million
Now, during the announcement, Li Jie also confirmed that it will cost the company around CNY100 million ($15 million) to keep this software support commitment.
OnePlus kind of needs to do this, It needs to stay competitive on this level. Samsung has been making strides when it comes to updates, and that goes for many of its devices, not just flagships. Google has been on a high level for a while, and it only approved its support.
OnePlus and OPPO will obviously follow that, while some other companies also improved. All of this is great, as it will push more companies to improve in the software department, and offer longer support.
