A well-known tipster dropped a bombshell rumor yesterday, when he reported that OPPO and OnePlus will be leaving Europe altogether. Soon after that, he corrected himself, and said that the companies will be leaving a handful of markets. Well, it turns out that’s not accurate either. OPPO and OnePlus have shared a joint statement in which they deny Europe exit. We’ll get to that soon.

OPPO & OnePlus deny Europe exit, following a wild rumor that surfaced yesterday

So, what’s going on here? Well, it seems like Max Jambor got some misleading information, or at least didn’t get the full picture. Yes, both OPPO and OnePlus are having issues with Nokia in Europe, but the decision to leave Europe didn’t seem right from the get-go. We’re glad it’s not happening, for the sake of consumers and the competition.

Nokia basically sued both OPPO and OnePlus due to 5G patents. That happened last year, and we expected a quick fix to the problem, but that did not happen. OnePlus and OPPO had to stop selling their devices in Germany, while more problems followed after that.

That being said, the tipster said that the companies will be leaving Germany, the UK, France, and the Netherlands. Both companies flat-out denied leaving Europe, and OnePlus even mentioned the UK in specific.

The two companies shared a joint statement, in addition to a statement from OnePlus’ Global PR Manager

This is the joint statement from the two companies, in full: “OPPO and OnePlus are committed to all the existing European markets. We had a great start in 2023 with the successful launches of several products in Europe and have a line-up of upcoming products for the rest of the year. As always, OPPO and OnePlus will continue to provide more innovative products and the best-in-class service for users moving forward”.

Now, some outlets got hung up on the “for the rest of the year” part, as if the two companies will be leaving in 2024. That is most likely just unfortunate phrasing on their part, and it probably means nothing.

In addition to this, OnePlus’ Global PR Manager, James Paterson, said the following: “OnePlus will not exit from Europe and the UK and maintains stable operations in local markets. OnePlus will continue to invest in Europe and provide more innovative products and solutions for its users”.

So, it would seem like both companies plan to continue business as usual. Nokia still remains a roadblock for these two sister companies, but let’s hope that will get resolved in the near future.
