Large-screen devices like tablets and foldable devices are getting the Google Chrome for Android redesign. This is coming in light of the changes that Google is working on bringing to Chrome for desktops in the coming months. The new redesign for large-screen Android comes with a few new elements that users can pinpoint once they launch the app.
It seems like this redesign is an experiment on the part of Google as they work on the new look on Chrome for desktop. Elements from this experiment can be found in various areas of the new Chrome stable update. This is only accessible to Android tablets and foldable devices that have Chrome version 112 installed.
With this version, Google does not change the entire design layout, just some elements. Also, there are some adjustments as to how users interact with these design adjustments across the app. Some reliable sources have been able to provide information regarding this redesign and everything netizens need to know and expect.
Everything you need to know about the Google Chrome for Android redesign for large-screen devices
With the redesign, things shift a bit towards the Material You side as elements blend with the device’s theme. Google Chrome for Android already supports Material You design, but this redesign takes things a step further. This new design will only be available to large-screen Android devices, so if you don’t have an Android tablet or a foldable, you won’t be getting this feature.
The major change with this redesign deals with the browser tabs displayed above the address bar. Before this redesign, the browser tabs on Google Chrome for Android did not blend with the entire body of the app. Only the tab belonging to the current page a user is browsing blends with the theme of the app’s entire body. The other tabs take a more tinted color, more like the device’s entire theme.
Also, the design of the current tab stood out, as it blends with the entire page’s theme. This design made the other tabs seem to be in the background, as the current tab had a different theme. Additionally, a swooping line coming from its base and running over the tab kept it in the spotlight.
The redesign however changes all of this as the active tab is now displayed as a floating card. Only the active tab’s floating card look blends with the device’s theme (Material You theming). Other browsing tabs blend with Chrome’s either light or dark theme.
Separating one tab from another is a thin line that attaches itself to nothing, giving that floating look. Asides from the change to the tab layout, there is not much change in the Google Chrome for Android redesign. Large-screen devices will get this redesign via an update to the Chrome browser.
