OnePlus has announced the first Android 14 beta update for its latest flagship OnePlus 11. Interested users can now get access to an early build of Android 14 as part of the Developer Preview Program. The company should open the beta program for more devices in the coming months.
Android 14 Beta 1 for the OnePlus 11 is currently in the early stage of development. There may be bugs or software inconsistencies that affect the device’s functionality. OnePlus has already identified a handful of known issues. This beta build has issues with Wi-Fi, casting to a TV display, creating a new calendar, WeChat calls, taking pictures with the front camera in WhatsApp, switching from Guest mode to Owner mode, and more. The company will fix these issues with subsequent beta builds.
You can download Android 14 Beta 1 on your OnePlus 11
Before we proceed, OnePlus specifies that Android 14 Beta 1 for the OnePlus 11 is primarily for developers and advanced users. The idea is to give developers an early chance to test their apps with Android 14 rather than collect feedback and bug reports. This beta build could be extremely unstable and may even brick your phone. Do not install it on your daily driver. You should also stay away from it if you have “little to no experience in software development” or flashing custom ROMs. Note that this beta update will erase all the contents of the phone, so don’t forget to back up important data.
If you are “100% sure of what you are doing,” you can proceed to download the update package from the company’s official website here. Make sure to download the correct package for your OnePlus 11. OnePlus offers different files for NA (North America), EU (Europe), IN (India), and GLO (global) versions of the phone. Once you have downloaded the correct file, follow the instructions provided on the same page to install Android 14 Beta 1. Ensure a minimum battery level of 30% and 4GB of storage space before installing.
Note that carrier versions (T-mobile and Verizon) of the OnePlus 11 are not compatible with this beta build. Moreover, as said before, Android 14 Beta 1 could be highly unstable. Some features might be missing or not working properly. If you find it too unstable for any meaningful use, you can go back to Android 13. Rollback packages and instructions are also provided on the same page as above. Stay tuned for the Android 14 Beta 2 update. Google announced the second beta version for Pixel phones yesterday. OnePlus should follow in the coming weeks.
