It’s been about a year since we first found out about the Pixel Tablet, and Google has given us a bit of information about it over the past couple of weeks. After this tablet has been leaked to death, the company has finally announced this device at Google I/O.
This is going to be the first tablet in Google’s new Pixel family of devices, and it’s expected to integrate seamlessly with other Pixel devices. So, let’s dig into this device and see if it should be your next tablet.
Google announced the Pixel Tablet
Let’s start off with the specs. The Pixel Tablet has a large 10.95-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. We were a bit surprised that it was not an AMOLED display.
Powering the device, we have the Google tensor G2 SoC, and this is the same processor that’s powering the Pixel 7 phones. Along with that, the Pixel Tablet uses the Google Titan M2 coprocessor for security. This is all backed up by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB of onboard storage.
As for the cameras, the Pixel Tablet has two cameras, and they’re both 8MP sensors. There is one on the rear and one on the front. You are likely to use the front-facing camera more for video calls.
As you can expect, this tablet will come out with the newest version of Android out of the box. It will run Android 13, and it will have all the tablet optimizations that Google has been working on for the past year and a half. This will be the purest version of the new tablet-friendly Android, and we’re all excited to see it.
What makes this tablet special
The standout feature of the Pixel Tablet is the ability to dock to have it become a smart display. The Pixel Tablet will come with an included docking station that will put it in a docked mode when it’s attached. So, you will basically be able to use your Pixel Tablet as a Nest Hub smart display.
The station will also act as a secondary source of power keeping the tablet consistently charged. So, this will be the main feature of the Pixel Tablet, and it will hopefully be what sells the device.
