Instagram may let you post only for your closest friends

Instagram is a platform where you can freely post content for all to see, but the company may add some exclusivity in the near future. According to the BGR (via Phone Arena), Instagram may eventually allow you to hide posts for everyone but your close friends.

When you make a post, people who follow you, and some who don’t, are able to see it. That’s the point of social media. But, there are some posts that you only want a select group of people to see. Twitter already has something like this, and it’s called Twitter Circles. This is where tweets are only shared with a specified group of followers.

Instagram may let you share posts with your close friend only

According to the report, Twitter user Alessandro Poliuzi was able to crack into the app and enable a yet-unseen feature. In the screenshot posted to Twitter, we see a new Audience button in the new post settings. Next to it, we see the Close Friends label. This points to you being able to set the app to only send your posts to accounts marked as close friends.

We don’t know how far this is into production, so we don’t know if the functionality will change. Also, we don’t even know if Instagram will launch the feature, to begin with. If so, then it could be a way of adding a bit of exclusivity to Instagram.

However, it might not be the feature for people who want to hold specific posts only for their closest Friends. It seems like, when you flip the switch, all of your new posts will only be visible to your close friends. So, this could be made under the assumption that you will make all of your posts accessible to your close friends, and leave everyone else out in the rain.

It’d be neat if the company would let you designate certain posts only for your close friends as you’re uploading them. You’re able to do the same thing with stories. In any case, it’ll be an interesting feature to have.
