Another day, another Galaxy device receives Samsung‘s May 2023 update in the US. To be precise, several Galaxy smartphones are picking up the latest security patch today. Unlocked Galaxy S21, carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy A52 5G are the latest to join the ever-growing May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) party. It contains more than 70 vulnerability patches.

Galaxy S21 series and Fold 3 are getting the May update widely

Yesterday, Samsung rolled out the May SMR to the carrier-locked version of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra in the US. The update came with the firmware build number G99*USQS6EWD5 or G99*USQS6EWD4 depending on the carrier. A day later, users with a factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 are also picking up the same update. The new firmware version for those devices is G99*U1UES6EWD6 (via). The rollout is already available widely on all major networks. Like the carrier-locked units, these phones are also only getting the latest security patch with no new features.

The story for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 unfolds the other way around. Samsung first released the May SMR for the unlocked versions of this phone. The rollout began last week alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The carrier-locked versions of the latter three recently picked up the new security patch. The 2021 Fold model is also now joining the party. The updated build number for this phone is F926USQS3FWE3 (via). Once again, the update is all about the latest security fixes and doesn’t bring any new features or improvements.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5G, meanwhile, is just starting to get the May SMR in the US. Samsung has released the update for the carrier-locked variant of the device. It comes with the firmware build number F707USQS4HWE1. Users in Europe also recently started picking up the latest security patch. The new firmware version for them is F707BXXS8JWD3. The 5G version of the original Samsung clamshell foldable isn’t getting any additional goodies with this update. The May SMR isn’t yet available for the LTE model, which debuted a few months earlier than its 5G sibling.

Samsung’s May update is also available for the Galaxy A52 5G in the US

Joining these flagships to Samsung’s May security update party in the US today is the Galaxy A52 5G. The 2021 premium mid-range smartphone is receiving the new SMR on both carrier-locked and unlocked units. The new firmware versions are A526USQS8EWE2 and A526U1UES8EWD3, respectively. Samsung doesn’t seem to push anything apart from this month’s security fixes to the phone. If you’re using any of these Galaxy devices in the US, the May 2023 security update should be available to you anytime now.
