A couple of days ago, we received some positive information regarding the Tensor G3. The chip will bring various improvements over the Tensor G2, much-needed ones. Based on some info, however, its performance still won’t be up to par with Qualcomm’s flagships. Rather disappointing Google Tensor G3 benchmarks surfaced.

The Google Tensor G3 benchmarks are a bit disappointing based on this info

A tipster that goes by the name ‘Revegnus’ shared Geekbench info. He claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 1,700 points in the single-core test, and 6,600 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench.

In comparison, the Tensor G3 managed to reach 1,186 points in the single-core test, and 3,809 points in the multi-core test. That’s a slight improvement over the Tensor G2 (1,047 and 3,192 points), but nowhere near the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

This is not all that surprising, to be quite honest. Why? Well, the Tensor G3 will use Arm’s last year’s cores, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will utilize the latest ones. Considering how good chips were using last year’s Arm cores, there’s probably no room for panic here.

The Tensor G3 will bring various improvements compared to the Tensor G2

The Tensor G3 will still bring improvements across the board, as far as cores go, compared to the Tensor G2. It will also support UFS 4.0 flash storage, and brings several other notable improvements.

To be quite honest, the Tensor G2 was not even close to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 when it comes to sheer performance, but it did a great job performance-wise. It was a bit slower, but still rather reliable, at least from the performance standpoint. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s advantage was clearly visible in the gaming department, though.

It may not be the fastest chip out there, but that’s not necessarily a deal breaker

The Tensor G3 may not be the fastest chip out there, but chances are it’ll deliver good performance. Google does rely a lot on AI and machine learning, and it has a lot of features related to that.

Many people would sacrifice raw benchmarks speed for reliable performance, Google’s camera processing, and so on. Google’s Pixel 8 phones are coming later this year, most likely in October, and both of them will include the Tensor G3 chip.
