Samsung is gearing up to launch its fifth-gen foldables in just over a month now. The company is readying the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, both of which have been subject to several leaks over the past few months. A specs round-up of the former by tipster Ahmed Qwaider on Twitter reminds us what we are getting. Unfortunately, we also get to know a disappointing new detail about the device.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not get a brighter display. Samsung has kept the maximum brightness of the inner folding display at 1,200 nits, the same as Fold 4. That’s disappointing because the new foldable doesn’t bring many other notable upgrades over its predecessor. It gets the same 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display on the inside with a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz and the same 6.2-inch panel (48-120Hz) on the outside with an unchanged aspect ratio that’s a bit too tall.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 also keeps the camera setup from last year. It features a 50MP primary camera on the back, flanked by a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP 3x zoom camera. For selfies, we have a 10MP camera above the cover display and a 4MP under-display solution on the inside. Samsung is also equipping the new foldable with the same 4,400mAh battery and 25W of maximum wired charging speed. We aren’t expecting any improvements in wireless (15W) and reverse-wireless (4.5W) charging speeds either.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 doesn’t bring many notable upgrades

So what extra does the Galaxy Z Fold 5 bring to the table over the Fold 4? Well, there aren’t many. Most notably, it will fold flatter thanks to the new waterdrop-type hinge. Rumors are that the new foldable will measure 13.4mm in thickness when folded, down up to 2.4mm from Fold 4 which measures 14.2-15.8mm. This change also makes it a little lighter. We are expecting the Fold 5 to weigh 9-10 grams lesser than the 2022 model (263 grams). There are also rumors of Samsung offering dust resistance, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be powered by the Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset. It brings notable improvements in CPU, GPU, and NPU performance. The Korean firm used this chipset in the Galaxy S23 series globally. The new foldable should also upgrade to LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Samsung may include Wi-Fi 7 support as well. Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 won’t be a big upgrade over the Fold 4 but users of older Samsung foldables may find it a decent buy. Stay tuned for the official launch next month.
