Password sharing is banned across most Netflix users now, and users are upset. But, it was only a matter of time before someone found a way to cheat the system. According to Evening Standard, some frustrated Netflix users found a sneaky workaround for the password-sharing ban.

In case you don’t know, Netflix enacted a ban on password-sharing, and it’s been testing this out since last year. Basically, Netflix account holders are no longer allowed to share their passwords with other people for free. Instead, if another person wants to get on to their account, then the account holder will be forced to pay an additional $3/month.

While just about every person on the face of the earth despised it, Netflix went ahead and enforced the ban. So, if you are on someone else’s Netflix account, no more binge-watching Stranger Things for you unless you get your own account- or you could convince the account holder to pay an extra $3/month for you. Good luck with that…

There’s a sneaky workaround to get around the Netflix password-sharing ban

Again, it was only a matter of time before someone found a way around this. This method popped up on the r/unethicallifeprotips community on Reddit. If you are tech-savvy, then this solution may seem so simple.

Basically, the trick involves you tricking Netflix into thinking that you are in the same house as the account holder even when you’re not. It requires using a VPN. You will use a VPN’s mesh Network function to connect to an internet connection but retain the IP address of the home internet connection.

Netflix checks which internet connection you’ve connected to. So, if you’re using an internet connection in a different city or even in a different house, Netflix will block your access.

So, this method makes Netflix think that you are all connected to the same internet connection. While this is a relatively simple workaround, we’re not sure if so many people will be doing this hack as to cause Netflix to go bankrupt. However, once the company gets wind of it, it might bring some changes to make things even worse. Only time will tell.
