The Pixel Watch may soon get Wear OS 4 beta. An official Google website has revealed that the company is working behind the scenes to launch a “Wear OS Beta Program” for its first-gen smartwatch. We don’t yet have an expected timeline for the first beta release.

Google announced Wear OS 4 during its I/O 2023 conference in May. Samsung followed up in early June with a beta program for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5. The Korean firm has already released three beta builds, with the update also bringing its One UI Watch 5 custom software.

But Google has not announced a Wear OS 4 beta program for the Pixel Watch. Thankfully, the wait may not be much longer now. 9to5Google recently discovered the phrase “Wear OS Beta Program” in the page source of Android beta for Pixel microsite. It mentioned two devices: Pixel Watch Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and Pixel Watch 4G LTE + Bluetooth/Wi-Fi.

This suggests that Google is preparing to add a dedicated section for Wear OS beta programs to the site. The “Your eligible devices” section of the same site recently rephrased “Phones” to “Android Devices.” This is likely to cover the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Fold within the same umbrella. These newly-released big-screen devices may get Android 14 Beta 4.

While the page source didn’t explicitly mention Wear OS 4 beta for the Pixel Watch, that’s the latest version of Google’s watch platform. Moreover, Samsung has been running a beta program for Galaxy Watches for a month now. So the Pixel Watch is already lagging behind the competition. Hopefully, the wait will end soon. We will let you know when we have more information.

The sign-up process for the Wear OS beta for the Pixel Watch should be similar to Android Beta for Pixel phones. You should see an “Opt in” button under your watch on the said website. Simply click on it and you’re in. An OTA (over the air) update should follow shortly.

Wear OS 4 will bring several notable improvements to the Pixel Watch

Wear OS 4 is based on Android 13, with Google skipping Android 12 (Wear OS 3 is based on Android 11). It will bring several notable improvements to your wearable, including a longer battery life. Google is also finally adding support for backup and restore. This will allow you to “securely transfer data and settings from an old watch to your new one.” The company has claimed a “faster and more reliable text-to-speech experience” as well. Stay tuned for the Wear OS 4 beta for the Pixel Watch.
