The Galaxy Watch line has been Samsung’s best smartwatch series to date, and today the company has announced its latest iterations, the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. There are two very notable features about this series of watches. The first is that Samsung is bringing back the rotating bezel on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.
This is a physical feature it took away when it released the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro last year. Instead opting for the touch bezel on both watches that it initially debuted on the Galaxy Watch Active 2. Now the rotating bezel is back. And fans will no doubt be happy to see its return.
The second notable feature of the newly announced Galaxy Watch 6 series is that the watches launch with Wear OS 4. These will be the first smartwatches to come with Wear OS 4 out of the box. Just like with Wear OS 3 when Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 4 series back in 2021. For some, that alone will be reason enough to consider upgrading. As Wear OS 4 should come with even more improved battery life and performance.
The Galaxy Watch 6 series is packed with features
It wouldn’t be a new watch without some new features, and there are definitely some new features here. Samsung Wallet is one of those. Allowing you to more easily store your cards and passes for use anytime you need. Samsung announced earlier this month that Samsung Wallet would be coming to watches beginning with the new Galaxy Watch series devices. And later to the Galaxy Watch 5 series.
Both watches also feature new and improved heart rate tracking, as well as improved sleep tracking and other improved health related features. Design-wise, not much has changed. Samsung is taking the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” approach. As the Galaxy Watch 6 looks basically like last year’s Galaxy Watch 5, and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic doesn’t look that different from the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
The new watches do come with design changes though. For instance, they have the largest displays Samsung has ever made for a smartwatch. They’re “20% larger” Samsung says. There’s new bands available too. The Galaxy Watch 6 will start at $299 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic will start at $399.
