Samsung’s latest promotion for Galaxy S23 Ultra on its website contains memories of the disastrous Galaxy Note 7. This is one of the rare times that the Korean OEM mentions the Note 7 while promoting its latest generation smartphone.
Back in 2016, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 7. The phone landed with some unique features like a dual-sided curved display, HDR support, and iris recognition. While everyone expected the Note 7 to be a successor to the Galaxy Note 5, the phone hit hard with battery problems. As a result, Samsung permanently discontinued the phone a few months later. The company also never mentioned it again in any other circumstances.
Even in the Galaxy Note 9 infographic promotions, the company didn’t mention Galaxy Note 7 as if it had never existed. Back then, Samsung jumped from the Galaxy Note Edge and the Note 5 to the Galaxy Note 8. However, seven years later, everything changed, and the Korean company no longer shies remembering Note 7.

Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung’s high-end smartphone that came as a successor to the Note brand, which was later canceled. The phone’s landing page on the Samsung website revives the memories of Note-branded phones since 2011. Samsung claims it’s learning from the past to improve the present. That being said, a part of the promo belongs to Galaxy Note 7 and its unique features at the time.
Samsung never explained what exactly happened to the Galaxy Note 7. But the company took a hard lesson by discontinuing the phone just a few months after its initial launch, resulting in a 33% drop in operating profits.
The following Note-branded phones never had the Note 7 issues and landed with some ground-breaking features. As the grandchild of Note 7, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is now one of the best Android smartphones you can buy.
