ChromeOS and Android exist as their own entities, but they sometimes share some similarities in their designs. Well, there’s a new update coming to Google’s desktop OS that will bring it a little more in line with Material You. According to C2 Production (via 9To5Google), the update mostly affects the settings in ChromeOS, and it brings a welcome change.
Starting off with the change to the calendar, Google added a shortcut to another useful service. A while back, Google allowed you to access Google Calendar from the calendar on the taskbar. After the update, you’ll be able also be able to access Google Tasks as well.
Above the Calendar, you’ll see a little Tasks UI that will have a dropdown menu with your lists. Under that, you’ll see the button to create a new task.
The settings in ChromeOS got the biggest update
The biggest change in this update has to do with the ChromeOS settings. Currently, when you access the settings, they all sit on one scrolling page. There are tabs on the left panel, but those navigate you to different sections of the same page. However, after this update comes, it will be more like what you see in Android.
Each section that you select from the side panel will be its own separate page. That’s a welcome change to the platform.
As for when we’ll get this change, that’s unclear. the source says that it will come with version 117 of ChromeOS. Well, the stable version out is 115, so we shouldn’t expect to see this for a few more months. If you’re running Canary, you can probably unlock these via flags.
There’s another ChromeOS feature
If you’re using ChromeOS version 115, Google introduced a new feature that will let you stream apps from your Android phone right to your Chromebook. You’ll have access to most of your phone’s apps, and you’ll be able to use them right on your Chromebook. If you want to know how to do this, click here.
