Repairing your Xbox controller just got easier

Repairing your Xbox controller just got much easier as Microsoft now officially sells controller repair parts. You can buy the parts direct from the Microsoft Store and there’s even a set of repair instructions you can download in PDF format that walk you through the entire process. Should you choose to give it a go.

And ultimately, you should if you want to keep the costs down. Because buying a new controller will set you back at least $45-$50 for the standard controller if it’s on sale. Though they can be as much as $70 at full price for most color options. And if it’s an Elite Series 2 controller that costs jumps up to $180. Even taking the controller to a repair shop can be costly for the repair service fees. But, say you just need to replace the buttons and triggers. Through Microsoft you can get the Elite Series 2 button replacement kit for $$23.99. Then you just need to download and follow the PDF instructions.

Kits for other parts vary based on what you need. A PCBA board for the Elite Series 2 is $49.99. While the top case is $25.99.

Microsoft controller repair parts cover just about everything you’d need

One thing Microsoft doesn’t seem to have are the tools you might need to take your controller apart. But those aside you can get the repair parts for just about anything you’d need to replace on the controller itself. The company sells parts for both the Elite Series 2 and the Xbox Wireless controller.

The one caveat perhaps is that the store only has parts for black and white controllers. So you won’t get any matching parts if your controller is any other color. But at the end of the day repairing the controller is still cheaper than buying a new one, even if the parts don’t match. Microsoft says parts ship out in 2-3 days and parts come with a 1-year warranty. There’s also an instructional how-to from the Xbox support team showing users how to repair their controllers. Although the video does only cover the Elite Series 2.

If you happen to need parts, Microsoft has you covered.
