Get Ready for an Upgrade: New iPad Mini Could Launch This Year

There’s been talk lately about whether there will be any more Apple products launched this year. Apple does typically have an October event, where they will announce a new iPad or two, and a couple of new Macs. But this year, it’s been looking less and less likely.

However, a report from Digitimes shows that the iPad Mini could get updated in the fourth quarter. Which would fit in with the October launch that the iPad normally gets. Digitimes did not outright say that it’s a new iPad mini, rather saying “orders for a new small-size iPad”. Which is supposedly going to help retailers replenish their iPad stock.

Interesting that they did not outright mention the iPad Mini, but it would be hard to see Apple renaming this at this point. But weirder things have happened.

iPad Mini 6th Generation debuted over two years ago

For a lot of the iPads, Apple is on a 18-month to two-year refresh cycle. With the exception of the regular iPad that is mostly being made for education. The iPad Mini 6th Gen debuted in September of 2021, so it’s definitely time for an upgrade. If we look at the past for the iPad Mini, it does generally get updated every other Fall.

Leakers are saying that there won’t be any more Apple Events this year, which might be true. Apple could also launch the iPad Mini as a press release. It’s not something that they haven’t done before. In fact, they launched new MacBook Pros and Mac Minis via press release at the start of 2023. So it’s definitely possible.

The iPad Mini is a fan-favorite iPad from Apple. Especially among pilots, who tend to use them for flight paths. Because it’s smaller, but still big enough to use in the cockpit. Others tend to use the smaller iPad when they want something bigger than a phone but not the size of an iPad Pro which is 11-inches these days. So it’s still fairly popular for Apple.
