According to a well-known insider, Apple can resolve the iPhone 15 Pro overheating problems, but at a cost of performance.

This information comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst and tipster. Kuo went into this issue in his blog, saying that certain design decisions that Apple made kind of backfired.

It seems like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have a smaller heat dissipation area, and the titanium frame has reduced thermal efficiency too. Those two factors combined make the phones overheat, basically. The Apple A17 Pro SoC is extremely powerful, and it needs room to breathe.

The iPhone 15 Pro series models are reported to heat up really quickly, and not only when you push them to their limits. Even some tasks that are not exactly that intensive can push them to get too hot.

Some reports said that using social media apps did that, while others mentioned ChatGPT. One particular report said that the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s temperature got up to 42.2°C (108℉) after just a 5-minute phone call. The area around the rear camera got “too hot to handle”. Factory reset didn’t help, as expected.

Kuo believes that a software update can fix things, but that Apple will have to lower the performance of the Apple A17 Pro. He also believes that Apple will have to react quickly in order to keep the momentum going. The iPhone 15 Pro series is in high demand at the moment.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not having such issues. They’re powered by the Apple A16 Bionic, and are made out of aluminum, which is prone to dissipate heat better than titanium.
