The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were just announced today, and these devices bring some neat and exciting features and the latest version of Android. One feature announced is the Pixel 8 Pro’s temperature sensor. Here’s a rundown of what this can do.

What the Pixel 8 Pro’s temperature sensor can do
We were following rumors about this addition to the Pixel 8 Pro, and now it’s finally come to light. One thing to note is that the regular Pixel 8 does not have this sensor; it’s only in the Pro version.
The temperature sensor is located on the back of the phone right under the LED flash. To use it, you’ll use this function to detect the temperatures of different objects. Google says that you’ll be able to tell the temperature of an object just by scanning it. This is a nifty feature that we haven’t seen on a mainstream phone.
Google will also have a dedicated thermometer app that you’ll be able to use. This app will guide you on how to use the tool. So, if you’re unsure about how to use the temperature sensor.
When it comes to the use case, the feature is mostly for detecting the temperature of objects. You’ll be able to tell if an object’s too hot like the ground, your food, or your friend’s iPhone 15 Pro. When it comes to detecting your skin temperature, you’ll have to wait for that for a bit.
Google submitted an application to the FDA to get clearance for use on the skin. If it gets clearance, then you might be able to get proper skin readings and store this information on the Fitbit app for up to 15 minutes.
