Google’s new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are official, and they are quite the lookers. Now, when can you pre-order them? Well, we have good news. Pre-orders open today, October 4, 2023. And the devices will start shipping on October 12, 2023. That’s just over a week of pre-orders here, so a pretty quick turnaround for Google with the new Pixel 8 models.

If you pre-order from the Google Store, you can get a free pair of Pixel Buds Pro with the pre-order of a Pixel 8. Or if you’re pre-ordering the Pixel 8 Pro, you can get the Pixel Watch 2 for free. Some pretty good deals from Google. And this is in addition to the trade-in promo that you can also get for your current smartphone.

Carriers will likely be offering some great deals too, later today. So be sure to check out AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon for more on that.

Pixel 8 gets huge display upgrade

One of the big reasons to upgrade to the new Pixel 8 this year, is going to be the display. The Pixel 8 itself does get a nice upgrade to 120Hz. Though it is adaptive from 60Hz to 120Hz, it’s not an LTPO like the Pixel 8 Pro which does 1Hz to 120Hz. But still great to see this faster refresh rate here.

The bigger upgrade is in the screen brightness. The Pixel 8 has a new Actua Display, which can hit 1400 nits for HDR and 2000 nits for peak brightness. The brightest Pixel ever, until the Pixel 8 Pro. Which has a Super Actua Display, and it can hit 1600 nits for HDR and 2400 nits for peak brightness. Both of which are really impressive, and far brighter than what Samsung does.

Of course, the Pixel 8 series also has some really incredible cameras, with the Pixel 8 Pro getting upgraded cameras all around. But the ultrawide is now a 48-megapixel sensor. Giving you a lot more resolution for things like macro shots.
