The Google Camera app has a new name, and you can easily guess it. Google has decided to rebrand the app to ‘Pixel Camera’, which makes all the sense in the world. This app is made for the company’s Pixel devices, and those are the only devices it comes pre-installed on.

The Google Camera app now has a new name, and you can easily guess it

In fact, you cannot really download the Pixel Camera app on any other device than a Pixel, despite the fact it’s listed on the Google Play Store. So… it’s really not surprising Google has decided to make this change.

Now, along with this name change, Google also changed up the description a bit, but not by much. The company rephrased it a bit, and added some new features to the list. It now says: “Never miss a moment with the fully redesigned Pixel Camera, and take fantastic photos and videos using features like Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur”.

The only devices that the latest version of this app works on are Pixel devices running Android 14. As far as its Wear OS version, you’ll need to have Wear OS 3 to get the latest build.

The listing on the Play Store has changed a bit as well

Google is also highlighting a changed-up UI on the Play Store, for this app. It’ll still be quite familiar to those of you who used it. Some additional options are included on the main UI, though.

The latest devices that came with the Google Camera, now known as the Pixel Camera app, are the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Those are the company’s new flagship handsets that launched not long ago.

Along with those two phones, the company presented a number of camera features. Those are included in the Pixel Camera app. Do note that those new features are exclusive to the Pixel 8 series. In fact, some of them are exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro, and some are on their way (not yet available).

The features available in the Pixel Camera app will differ based on the phone you have it installed on, of course. As was the case thus far.
