This is something that Google did not mention during its press event, but it seems like the Pixel 8 series devices work with MagSafe accessories. Some cases from Mous popped up on the Google Store to confirm that info.

Google Pixel 8 devices are compatible with MagSafe, well… kind of

If you check out the links provided below the article, you’ll see Mous’ Protective Magnetic Cases for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. They come in Clear, Walnut, and Aramid Fibre variants, and all of them have the MagSafe ring on the back.

Does this confuse you? Well, we’re not surprised, we were kind of stumped as well. Qi2 charging is right around the corner, and perhaps these cases were made for that purpose, or something of the sort.

As many of you know now, Apple and the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) worked together towards Qi2 charging. That standard will allow all devices to utilize Qi magnetic charging, it’s kind of a cross-compatibility standard.

Qi2 was announced earlier this year, and it’s expected to arrive soon

Qi2 was announced to become available later this year, perhaps Mous expected it to arrive sooner. Either way, the company’s cases are now available, which means that you can use MagSafe accessories on your Pixel 8 phone if you get one.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series did work with MagSafe too, kind of, without a case. We tried it out on several occasions. So, with a proper magnet on the case, this should work just fine.

These cases are not cheap, though. The Walnut one is the cheapest, at $64.99, while the Clear and Aramid Fibre ones will set you back $69.99 in the US. The purchase links are included below in case you’re interested. They use ‘AiroShock’ impact-absorbing technology, and should do a good job protecting the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
