Already most Pixel enthusiasts are aware that the codenames for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are Shiba and Husky respectively. On this list of Pixel device codenames, those are the only two that might be new to certain people, aside from the codename Comet.

The answer to that question is a no, and the reason for that answer has to do with how Google Pixel codenames work. Experts are linking Comet to the Google Pixel foldable line-up and not a regular slab device.
Reasons why the Google Pixel Comet might be a foldable smartphone
The major reason why experts conclude that the coming Google Pixel Comet isn’t part of the Pixel 8 series is its codename. All devices in the Pixel 8 series will use dog breeds as their codenames. Already, netizens are more than excited to witness the launch of Shiba and Husky in about a day.
Also, this Comet device doesn’t fit in with the Pixel 9 series which will use reptile-related codenames. So where exactly does the Google Pixel Comet fit and what type of device will it be? From the Pixel Buds codes, it is clear that this device would be a fold for certain reasons.
First, it sits very close to the Pixel Fold that goes by the codename “Felix” and this launched a few months ago. Next is that the code refers to Comet as a fold, proving that it wouldn’t be a slab device. However, it might be impractical to expect another fold from Google this year, considering that they already launched a few months ago.
But this doesn’t erase the possibility that Comet might succeed Felix as the next-gen Pixel Fold device. It might also be possible that Comet is a clamshell folding device that will compete with the likes of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Whichever the case might be, Pixel fans around the world should expect a new foldable device.
