Over the past couple of years, Netflix has been on a mad dash to break into the gaming market. Despite a slow adoption rate, the company has been full steam ahead with its venture. According to a new report, Netflix has been able to double its number of game downloads over the past year.
Netflix started offering mobile games. These aren’t only games that are based on Netflix original shows/movies. Rather, these are games that you can only download if you have an active Netflix subscription on your phone. There’s a fair selection of games that you can download from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store if you want to see what the buzz is about.
If you’re in the Netflix app, you can simply go to the Games tab. Then, you’ll be directed to the app store.
Netflix has doubled its game downloads over the past year
Netflix’s gaming business is actually picking up steam. If you remember, we got some numbers early last year, and they showed that less than 1% of Netflix’s users were actually playing the games. By September 2022, the company amassed 30.4 million downloads. Well, that number jumped 131% to about 70.5 million by September this year. That’s great for the company, and it shows that more people are taking its gaming push seriously.
It’s not showing any signs of slowing down with ambitions. It’s currently working on bringing its games over to smart TVs and computers in the near future. You’ll load the game on your device and use your phone as a controller. You’ll download a separate app on your phone and use it to control your characters. This sounds like an odd idea, so people will have to try it out to see if it will actually work.
Netflix seemed to be on the decline early last year with its massive drop in customers. With the then impending password crackdown, we all thought that the company was digging its own grave. However, it was able to increase its signups with the crackdown. This, coupled with the fact that more people are interested in its games, makes it seem like the company is soaring to new heights. Let’s just hope that this continues, as the company is getting ready to raise its prices yet again.
