The coming OnePlus OxygenOS 14 update brings some questions about whether it’ll default back to the stock Android feel. In the past, OnePlus was known for not only being an enthusiast brand but also for sticking with a clean operating system. This gave the device a smooth feel and user experience despite running on OxygenOS with a few tweaks and customizations.

During this period, users of OnePlus smartphones could brag that they got a Pixel-like experience on their devices. But all of that began to change with the merger between OPPO’s and OnePlus’ operating systems. Considering that the latter is a sub-brand of the first, the merger was important to merge the software experience on either brand user pick.

This merger software has been in use since last year, and it brought an end to the stock Android feel on OnePlus devices. Since then, some users have been begging to get back the previous simple OxygenOS software that they fell in love with. As they gear up to receive the coming OxygenOS 14 update, these users will have to get used to their new software.

OnePlus’ OxygenOS 14 will drift further away from the brand’s previous stock Android feel

The public beta of the coming OxygenOS 14 software is already rolling out, bringing many new features. One of these new features is what OnePlus calls the Fluid Cloud, which is their version of the Dynamic Island. This public beta update also dashes the hearts of OnePlus fans hoping for stock Android software to the ground.

With the current OxygenOS software and with the coming update, the brand’s smartphones now feel more like OPPO. OxygenOS now looks, performs, and feels just like ColorOS the software on OPPO devices. While this software merger brings new features to the OnePlus device it leaves users longing for the previous stock Android feel.

Some experts have already taken it upon themselves to find out the fate of OnePlus devices. Their search for answers leads them to Gary Chen, the Product Partnership Lead at OnePlus. He confirms to these experts (the folks at Android Central) that the previous stock Android feel is no more.

Now the brand is focusing more on brushing up on the design of their software. They call the new look of the software an Aquamorphic Design, likening its performance to the smooth flowing water. With the new update, there are a ton of new features that are coming to the software to improve the user experience.

OnePlus users should get used to the new look of their smartphones. The OPPO-fiction of OnePlus is here and is here to stay, and users need to adapt. With future updates, more features and design elements will come to OxygenOS to help make it more usable.
