The Pixel 8 is now on the Android 14 beta
There are those folks who want to be on the most stable versions of the software, but there are those who want to be on the cutting edge. They want to try out the newest features hot out of the oven. This is what the beta program is for. Google just put its latest phones on the program. So, Pixel 8 owners can get the Android 14 QPR 1 beta 2 (version U1B2.230922.006).
Getting onto the program is easy. Just go to the Android beta page. If you’re not logged into your Google account with that browser, then you’ll want to. Once the page loads, it will show you a list of the devices on your Google account. If you’re logged into your Google account with your Pixel 8, then you will see it on the page.
Click on it, and opt into the beta program. After you confirm your choice, you’ll see an update reach your phone. Once you install that update, your phone will be running the beta version of Android 14.
Before you install
Before you install the beta, there are a few things that you’ll need to know. First and foremost, beta software is not stable. You will run into bugs and hiccups throughout the software. There’s a chance that some features or programs won’t work. You’ll be joining the beta program at your own risk. Just know that the software won’t be the most stable.
Not only that but when you join the beta, there’s no turning back… well, for the most part. So, once you install the beta program, you’ll be able to revert back to the stable version of the software if you go back to the website and opt out of the program. However, when you do, all of the data on your phone will be erased. You will need to set up your device anew and start over.
There are designated windows of time when you can drop out of the program without losing your data, however. These times are during the major beta releases. So, if you grow sick of the beta, you’ll need to wait for those times.
