Prior to the Google Pixel 8 series launch event, the ISOCELL GN2 sensor was rumored as the main camera sensor on both devices. Well, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro do not sport that unit, their main camera sensor is quite surprising.

Ben Sin looked into the matter, and it seems like both smartphones pack in the ISOCELL GNV camera sensor. That is the camera sensor you can find in the Vivo X80 Pro. Needless to say, this is quite a surprise.

As many of you know, Google doesn’t exactly confirm such info, which is why we were not aware of it from the get-go. The ISOCELL GNV has been around for around two years at this point, and it’s a 1/1.3-inch sensor.

Now, during the Pixel 8 series launch, Google did mention that the Pixel 8 series’ main camera can take in 21% more light than the main camera on the previous two phones. As many of you know, this is a 50-megapixel sensor.

The two phones arrived quite recently, and their camera setups are not the same

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launched quite recently. The two phones do include the same main camera sensor, but the other two sensors are different. The Pixel 8 includes a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera.

The Pixel 8 Pro also comes with a ‘Pro’ camera mode, and some other perks compared to the vanilla model. If you do want a smaller phone, as the Pixel 8 Pro is huge, the Pixel 8 is a bit smaller than its predecessor.

The Tensor G3 SoC by Google fuels both phones, while both devices support wireless charging too. You’ll find 120Hz OLED displays on both phones, but they’re not the same, the Pixel 8 Pro has the advantage in that regard.
