In the coming months, over 1,258 workers in the Qualcomm office in California will lose their jobs. This is a result of the company’s plans to lay off a ton of its staff in this region. Proof of this sad turn of events was released by the California Employment Development Department after Qualcomm’s filings on this matter.

By laying off 1,258 workers, Qualcomm will be letting go of about 2.5% of its workforce. This figure is based on the chipmaker’s annual financial filings from 2022 that said it had 51,000 workers. However, the layoffs are not going to affect just one of Qualcomm’s Californian offices but two.

The company says that 1,064 workers from its San Diego office will feel the effect of the layoffs. Another 194 workers in Santa Clara will also lose their jobs as well. If you are wondering what the reason behind this layoff is, Qualcomm has a few reasons to give.

Some company restructuring is leading Qualcomm California to let go of 1,258 workers

Qualcomm just recently came out to express its intentions to lay off 2.5% of its workforce in California. The chip manufacturer points out that this layoff is coming in light of workplace reductions and company restructuring actions. At the moment, the layoffs are not yet in place but once effective will send 1,258 workers back home, leaving them without a job.

Over the years, the chip manufacturing industry has seen lots of challenges with the production and supply chain. These challenges have also affected Qualcomm and the way they carry out their business practices. For this reason, the company intends to undergo some restructuring actions to help it turn attention to various aspects of the chip manufacturing industry.

To facilitate this move or investment into other areas of the chip industry, Qualcomm is laying off some workers. The layoff exercise is a vital part of the plans the chip manufacturer has laid out for itself. All the employees that this layoff exercise will affect work with Qualcomm’s teams in California.

The layoffs will take effect from December 13, 2023, and the restructuring actions will see substantial completion in the first half of fiscal 2024.
