Qualcomm plans for major job cuts in California

In the coming months, over 1,258 workers in the Qualcomm office in California will lose their jobs. This is a result of the company’s plans to lay off a ton of its staff in this region. Proof of this sad turn of events was released by the California Employment Development Department after Qualcomm’s filings on this matter.

By laying off 1,258 workers, Qualcomm will be letting go of about 2.5% of its workforce. This figure is based on the chipmaker’s annual financial filings from 2022 that said it had 51,000 workers. However, the layoffs are not going to affect just one of Qualcomm’s Californian offices but two.

The company says that 1,064 workers from its San Diego office will feel the effect of the layoffs. Another 194 workers in Santa Clara will also lose their jobs as well. If you are wondering what the reason behind this layoff is, Qualcomm has a few reasons to give.
