In September 2023 alone, the amount of recorded ransomware attacks took a spike in the records chart. Experts were able to identify a total of 514 attacks that took place during the month. This number is outrageous and points out the fact that bad actors on the internet are trying harder every day to steal personal data from internet users.

Those familiar with this matter say that the number of attacks from last month is record-breaking. Also, record-breaking is the number of bad actors performing these attacks from last month as well. Three major cyberattack groups were making waves last month with their relentless attacks.

The majority of these ransomware attacks in September hit North America. These attacks aim to steal sensitive data from companies in the industrial, consumer industry, and technology business sectors. With this record-high number of attacks in just one month, there is a need for various companies to keep on guard and protect their sensitive data.

The record-breaking ransomware attacks from last month brought three players into the limelight

Before September, the records for ransomware attacks were in March. Back then, analysis was able to identify 459 attacks that hit various sectors around the world. That previous record stood tall up until last month when three new players in the cybercrime world went berserk.

In September, the big names in the ransomware attack business were LockBit 3.0, LostTrust, and BlackCat. Collectively, these three players were able to make 179 attacks on various sectors. Among all three, LockBit 3.0 has the highest amount of attacks, which is 79. Reports also point out that LostTrust is a new player in the ransomware business, and they seem to mean business.

With 514 attacks in September, the total amount of attacks this year rises to 3500 (approximately). Some experts say that these attacks will further increase to 4000 before the end of the year 2023. With this massive growth, businesses need to be on the watch and very protective of the sensitive data that these bad actors can hold at ransom.
