GeForce NOW is getting what is without a doubt its biggest new game release today, as NVIDIA has just announced that Call of Duty will be joining the GeForce NOW library.
The Call of Duty release is the result of Microsoft’s partnership with NVIDIA. For those who need a refresher, Microsoft spent more than a year battling it out with regulators trying to get its acquisition of Activision Blizzard approved. Part of the company’s strategy included agreeing to partnerships with multiple companies to bring Activision Blizzard’s portfolio of games to other platforms. This included entering into a partnership with NVIDIA. Based on the agreement that it would bring over not just Activision Blizzard games, but some from its own Xbox library.
GeForce NOW has been getting Xbox games for months. But this is the first time an Activision Blizzard game has been tossed in since the approval of Microsoft’s acquisition. To boot, it just so happens to be Activision’s biggest money maker.
GeForce NOW will gain access to the Call of Duty HQ
If you haven’t played Call of Duty in a while, things have changed a little bit. Everything is wrapped up in a one-stop shop location called the Call of Duty HQ. It’s a single launcher for all things CoD and includes multiple campaigns as well as multiplayer for the two most recent games in the series – Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III. You’ll also find Warzone, as well as the new Modern Warfare Zombies mode.
The Call of Duty HQ is what GeForce NOW subscribers will have access to. Inside of this, they’ll be able to access multiple modes of play. Including multiplayer from both Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III, Zombies, Warzone, and the Modern Warfare III campaign. NVIDIA also confirms that legacy Call of Duty titles will be added in the future.
NVIDIA confirms in its blog post that Call of Duty HQ is live on all devices that support GeForce NOW.
The service gets 65 games for December, 15 this week
We’d argue that Call of Duty is the biggest game being added this week. Or perhaps even this month. But it certainly isn’t the only game you can look forward to playing in the cloud. This week will include 15 new games. Three of those are the Call of Duty games mentioned above. But there are still 12 more. And December as a whole will have 65 games.
This week will see releases for Last Train Home and Gangs of Sherwood. Both of these recently received support for DLSS enhancements too. The remaining games for this week include SteamWorld Build, Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles, Galactic Civilizations IV, Halls of Torment, Kona II: Brume, Laika: Aged Through Blood, Pillars of Eternity, RESEARCH and DESTROY, Roboquest, and StrangerZ.
Update: November 30 – 3:05 pm PST
This post has been updated to mention that all devices which support GeForce NOW have access to the Call of Duty HQ.
