Apple is widely anticipated to hold a product launch event as early as next month. As per various reports in the past, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to unveil new iPads and a MacBook Air. Now, a new development tips the upcoming iPad Pro’s dimensions. They are said to be significantly thinner compared to the previous generation.
Upcoming iPad Pro tipped to be thinner and slightly larger
Apple will continue its tradition of offering the Pro variants in 11 and 12.9-inch display sizes. Citing sources familiar with the company’s plans, 9to5Mac reports that the 2024 iPad Pro models will get a redesign in terms of dimensions. The current-generation 11 and 12.9-inch options measure 247.6mm x 178.5mm x 5.9 mm and 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6.4mm respectively. On the 2024 variants, these will reportedly measure 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm and 281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm respectively.
Comparing the dimensions between the current and upcoming generation models indicates that the latter will be thinner but also slightly bigger. It also suggests that the 2024 iPad Pro will feature a slimmed-down body. This should make handling the device a bit easier.
The change in dimensions is attributed to the OLED display technology that is rumored to be adopted on the Pro models. OLED panels are thinner than LCD enabling Apple to cut down the thickness.
iPad Air 12.9’s dimensions will be same as current-gen Pro
Alongside the iPad Pro, Apple is also expected to announce a larger Air model for the first time. The report reveals that the iPad Air 12.9 will have the same dimensions as the current-generation iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Barring a slightly lesser thickness it will measure 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6mm. A leaked CAD-based render of the upcoming offering revealed a pill-shaped protruding camera module and flat frame.
The 2024 iPad Pro is most likely expected to be powered by an M3 processor. It remains to be seen if the 2024 iPad Air also makes the jump to the same chipset or adopts the M2.
