Foldable smartphones have been around for quite some time at this point. Apple is not one of the companies that delivered them, though. We may have to wait for 2027 in order to see the very first foldable device from Apple.

The very first foldable device for Apple will not arrive before 2027

This information comes from Revegnus, a tipster. He shared the information on X (formerly known as Twitter), along with some additional insight. He claims that 2027 is the most likely year that we’ll see the very first product, but there’s a slight chance it will be moved up to 2026.

It’s not exactly a secret that Apple likes to see specific tech on the market for quite some time, for it to mature before the company opts to use it in one of its own devices. That’s the case with foldable displays, hinges, and other components for foldable devices.

The original Galaxy Fold launched in 2019. So, if Apple does deliver its first foldable phone in 2027, it will be 8 years behind Samsung in a sense. As already mentioned, that’s not surprising for Apple, though.

Foldable panels for the very first Apple foldable will go into mass production in 2026

In any case, the tipster also said that panels for the foldable iPad Mini will be mass-produced in 2026. So Apple is seemingly planning to deliver a foldable tablet too. Unless there’s some miscommunication there, as a foldable iPhone will also have a 7-8-inch main display, almost certainly. So that would basically be a phone that unfolds.

What’s also interesting is that 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone and the 10th anniversary of OLED iPhones. That will be a big year for Apple, so the company could choose it to launch its first foldable product, or perhaps even products.

We’ve recently seen some information regarding foldable iPhones. Apple is allegedly working on two foldable iPhones, and that report said that they won’t launch in 2024 or 2025. Back then, we assumed that 2027 will be the year to do it, and it seems like that assumption was correct.
