Samsung has started pushing the February 2024 Android security patch to Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are the first two models to pick up the new security update. Other eligible devices will follow in the coming days.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 grab Samsung’s February 2024 update
As of this writing, Samsung’s February SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 is available in Europe. The new firmware build number for the former is F926BXXS6GXAC, while that for the latter is F711BXXS7GXAC. The company will soon bring the update to other regions, including the US. The build number may vary but the content of the update should remain the same.
Speaking of the content, Samsung has yet to detail the vulnerability patches pushed as part of the new security release for Galaxy devices. These monthly updates usually patch several dozen security issues across the Galaxy family. The January release contained 80 vulnerability fixes, most of which were Android OS patches coming from Google. Samsung also pushes a few Galaxy-specific patches.
We expect the Korean firm to publish the updated security bulletin with the February SMR details later this week. The update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 doesn’t bring anything more than the latest security fixes, though. Samsung’s official changelog confirms the foldables are only getting security improvements. They recently received the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update with many new features.
While we wait for Samsung to publish the details of the latest security patch, the company should roll out the update to more devices. The likes of the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S23 series, and newer foldables may get it over the next few days. As usual, you can check for updates from the Settings app. Note that OTA (over-the-air) updates are released in batches and may not be available globally at the same time.
These foldables will soon get One UI 6.1
One UI 6.1 will be the next major feature update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Based on Android 14, the new One UI version debuted with the Galaxy S24 series last month. It brings a host of AI features, though some of which may not make it into the 2021 foldable duo. We will know for sure when the rollout begins. The two aging foldables are also eligible for the Android 15 update with One UI 7.0.
