Nowadays, we all have to face the sad fact that there are more people out there calling us to scam us out of our money than there are people who just want to say “Hello.” This is why companies like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon work tirelessly to block as many scam calls as they can. T-Mobile just announced that it blocked more than 20 billion scam calls in 2023.

Scam calls and spam calls or some of the most annoying aspects of owning a smartphone today. Across all of the major carriers, people are inundated with phone calls every hour, and they’re usually from people trying to scam them out of their money. This is why carriers have their hands full.

T-Mobile announced that it blocked almost 20 billion scam calls in 2023

The “Un-carrier” T-Mobile released its 2023 Scam and Robocall Report. The report itself shows some impressive numbers, and it showed that T-Mobile is blocking more robocalls year over year. In fact, throughout the year 2023, the company actually blocked 51% more calls compared to 2022. That’s no small feat. Back in 2022, Americans lost over $10 billion due to phone scams, and scammers are only getting more dangerous. The advent of generative AI is only making the problem that much worse.

However, T-Mobile has a lot of faith in its Scam Shield technology. In fact, T-Mobile was able to block almost 20 billion scam calls last year. That equates to about 628 every second. So, if you think you got called a lot last year, just imagine how many more calls you would have gotten if it wasn’t for Scam Shield.

As time goes on, more and more scams will arise to fool you out of your money. There’s no guarantee that it will ever end, so, it’s best to practice basic safety when answering phone calls. In the meanwhile, T-Mobile is going to continue to fight to reduce as many scam calls as it can.
