We’ve seen quite a few reports regarding a foldable iPhone thus far. Many of them were not accurate. Well, a new one just surfaced, claiming that the very first foldable iPhone launch has been pushed back, it is now expected to arrive in early 2027.

The first foldable iPhone launch has been pushed back to early 2027

This information contradicts with the Apple roadmap that surfaced recently, suggesting this information is newer. You see, the foldable iPhone was rumored to arrive in 2026, but the launch seems to have been pushed back further.

The report from Alphabiz is based on information from a “senior official familiar with Apple’s internal affairs”. He says that after “thorough preparations”, it is becoming obvious that Apple is planning to start selling its first foldable iPhone later than expected.

Prior to this change, the fourth quarter of 2026 was highlighted. However, after this change, the first quarter of 2027 is mentioned. Needless to say, that’s quite a long wait. One rumor even suggested that a foldable iPad will arrive prior to a foldable iPhone, but that doesn’t seem as likely.

Apple’s first foldable to arrive 8 years after Samsung’s

The original Samsung Galaxy Fold launched back in February 2019. If this launch date for the first foldable iPhone ends up being true, Apple’s first foldable will arrive eight years after Samsung’s.

Now, considering this is Apple we’re talking about, it’s not exactly odd that they’re to the party. Apple likes to let technologies develop before it implements them in its products. This is quite a wide gap, though.

Either way, many people are waiting for the first foldable iPhone. Foldables have been on the rise, as the interest in them is growing. We’ve seen some outstanding foldable smartphones in the market in the last year or so.

We’ll have to wait for almost three more years to see the first offering from Apple, though. Well, presuming this information is accurate, of course. We presume that other OEMs will find ways to (considerably) further improve their foldables by then.
