Google Fi has announced a price increase for its Simply Unlimited phone plan. Starting in April, subscribers with three or more lines will see an increase of $10-$30 in their monthly bill. There is no change to the pricing structure for accounts with one or two lines. The perks for all lines also remain unchanged, so you aren’t getting any additional benefits.

Google Fi increases the prices of its Simply Unlimited phone plan

Introduced in April 2021, Google Fi’s Simply Unlimited plan gave you a balance of features and affordability. At launch, the plan started at $60 per month for a single line and $90 per month for two or three lines. Each additional line beyond that would cost $30 per month. Essentially, three or more lines of Google Fi’s Simply Unlimited phone plan were priced at $30 per month each.

A year later, in April 2022, the company announced a price cut for all lines. A single-line account dropped to $50 per month, while a subscription with two, three, or four lines dropped to $80 per month. Each additional line beyond that was priced at $20 per month. You could get four lines of Google Fi’s Simply Unlimited plan at $80, five at $100, and six at $120 per month.

The prices are going up again, at least for three or more lines. For three lines, Simply Unlimited now costs $90 per month instead of $80. Likewise, the monthly cost of four, five, and six lines now comes in at $100, $125, and $150, respectively, up from $80, $100, and $120. Google Fi confirms that all of these prices are exclusive of taxes and government fees, so your total monthly bill could be higher.

While the price cut in 2022 also brought additional perks—Google Fi increased the high-speed data cap from 22GB to 35GB, added 5GB of hotspot tethering, and introduced unlimited calling within Canada and Mexico—there is now added benefit of this price increase. Quite ironic, but the company says it has to increase prices “to continue delivering high-quality product offerings and features.”

The price change is effective in April

The changed prices for Google Fi’s Simply Unlimited plan are now applicable to anyone buying a new line. However, for existing subscribers, the latest price hike will reflect on their monthly bill starting on April 4, 2024. The company says accounts with active long-term promotions or financed devices won’t see a price change until the existing commitments end. It will issue plan credits to each account member to maintain the same effective price.
